Executive Committee
Bin Liu
President
I am a PhD student at the University of Manchester, dedicated to exploring aesthetic issues through a symbol-based approach. In my leisure time, I find joy in literary writing, taking city walks, and reminiscing about my time in China under Manchester’s diamond blue skies.
In my role as President of the BPPA, I aim to communicate effectively with other academic institutions and philosophy associations, creating an inclusive and supportive environment for philosophy postgraduates.
B.V.E. Hyde
Vice President
B.V.E. Hyde is the Vice President of the British Postgraduate Philosophy Association. He is a philosopher of science and metascientist with interests in methodology, policy, scientific grantmaking, and mechanisms of the academe like peer-review.
He sometimes does advisory/consultancy work for some of British institutions, particularly those working in philosophy or other social sciences. He is keen to collaborate with more postgraduates: contact b.v.e.hyde@outlook.com
Nirali Patel
Secretary
I am currently an MA student at the University of Leeds. I am primarily interested in Indian Philosophy and the intersections between social epistemology and moral philosophy, but my background in Physics means I also enjoy dabbling in metaphysics and philosophy of science from time to time too.
In my free time you can find me hiking or trying out new recipes. During my time as Secretary I hope to diversify our scope and generate more traction for non-Western traditions in mainstream philosophical discourse.
Jeff Hawley
Communications Officer
I am a PhD student at York St John focused on the intersection of Philosophy of Sound and logical positivism. Questions like "Where does sound occur?” and “What does it mean to say that a sound occurred ‘over there’?” keep me up at night.
I hope to put my decades of experience in marketing musical instruments and professional audio equipment to use in optimizing the internal and external communications and promotion of the BPPA. As a remote student (located in the US Pacific Northwest) I also aim to expand the reach of the BPPA through hybrid events and more engaging online platforms and communication channels. When I am not researching Philosophy of Sound or the Vienna Circle, I enjoy listening to classic country music and playing guitar.
